Isaac Israel is not new to the film industry. He has worked as a freelance director on prior projects as it relates to short films; however, Joseph’s Dream was the first film he considered to be of epic portion. Now he has several biblical short films under his belt.
Israel directed Joseph’s Dream to bring the Bible, which is the world’s best-selling book, to a reality. He wanted to dispel that belief and tell the stories of the Bible as a history book of a people who have not been depicted in their truest origin. Israel’s motivation to become involved in the Christian/Religious film genre was from reading the Bible.
“When you look at the different movies like Passion of the Christ or any other movies that depicts the Bible, Black people are nonexistent or casted as slaves,” Isaac shares. “But in actuality the Black people or rather the nation of Israel resided and resides in the land of Northeast Africa and the biblical Israelites were a dark-skinned Black people. So just reading the Bible inspired me to go ahead and try to produce this movie to give our people and those who like the Bible those who like truth I’m through imagery.”
Israel previously directed a short documentary about the relationship between Haitians and Dominicans. It exposed the deep hatred that they have for one another although they both inhabit the same country. He also directed a short film/music video about the life of Nat Turner prior to his insurrection. The video was about Turner’s use of the Bible, which inspired his fellow enslaved brothers to fight for independence. The other short film he directed was another biblical depiction of the book of Exodus where Moses encountered the Lord through the burning bush.
As it relates to his latest project Joseph’s Dream, Israel did not go at it alone. He worked with Jedidah Israel, a film student and was also his co-director. The two worked together in a synergistic manner to acquire the right talent from different backgrounds to contribute to the movie. They were fortunate to have a wealth of volunteers, who made the film possible. They also had the assistance of various sponsors to chip in to make everything possible.
